The Final Cut Pro 5 advantage is clear: High-performance digital
nonlinear editing, support for virtually any video format and
facility-class extensibility and interoperability. Whether you're
working solo or collaborating with a team, Final Cut Pro delivers the
real-time power and flexibility you need to tackle any project. The
professional editing and trimming tools included with Final Cut Pro 5
let you work quickly, while full customization gives you more
flexibility and control. From editing to output, Final Cut Pro includes
advanced image processing and intuitive media management features to
help bring your story to to the screen.
Full Format Support
With native support for virtually any video format all in one
application, Final Cut Pro 5 lets you edit everything from DV and SD to
to DVCPRO HD and uncompressed high-definition video. Work with new
formats like native HDV (long-GOP MPEG-2) and 50-Mbps IMX. Capture and
output video frame accurately using professional decks, or go tapeless
with new Panasonic P2 media support. Tight integration with the
included Cinema Tools 3 lets you manage and cut film projects with
incredible ease.
Unlike other solutions, Final Cut Pro 5 acquires HDV media via FireWire
and keeps it in the original format, transferring it into the system
without any generation loss. Output via FireWire back to an HDV camera
or deck, or transfer your native HDV to DVD Studio Pro 4 for an
end-to-end native HDV workflow. You can also edit native IMX video from
XDCAM and eVTR devices with Final Cut Pro 5. Using software from
Telestream (sold separately), video is acquired and the file is flipped
from MXF to QuickTime, providing Final Cut Pro 5 with the necessary
camera native IMX files for editing. Final Cut Pro 5 is compatible with
30-, 40-, and 50Mbps IMX media.
Tapeless Workflow
Embrace the latest industry trends toward tapeless workflows. Final Cut
Pro 5 support for high-speed acquisition lets you transfer files from
Panasonic P2 devices faster than real time. A file transfer from MXF to
QuickTime provides Final Cut Pro 5 with the necessary camera-native
DVCPRO, DVCPRO50 or DVCPRO HD files for editing.
Log and Capture from Tape
Final Cut Pro 5 includes a professional log and capture interface that
provides full deck control, logging fields and access to capture and
media settings. Set reel, clip, scene and shot name information to
increment automatically, streamlining your log and capture workflow.
Real-time Multicam Editing
Final Cut Pro 5 introduces real-time multicamera editing tools for DV,
SD and HD. This powerful feature lets you simultaneously play back and
view shots from multiple sources and cut between them in real time.
Multiclips--a new type of clip that allows you to group together
multiple sources as separate angles and cut between them--give you up
to 128 angles, of which 16 can be played back at a time. An intuitive
synchronization window provides graphical feedback to show where clips
overlap so you can accurately create Multiclips. Add, delete or change
the order of angles in a Multiclip at any time.
The Multiclip Viewer displays and plays back Multiclips in 1-, 4-, 9-
and 16-up layouts. Timecode, clip name and angle number information can
also be displayed over each angle.
RT Extreme with Dynamic RT
Built on a scalable software architecture, RT Extreme with Dynamic RT
automatically provides better performance and more real-time effects as
CPU speeds increase. Real-time effects play back both onscreen and on
external video output devices at the best available quality, so you see
basic cuts and effects at the highest quality, while effects-heavy
sections play at reduced quality or frame rates. Lock quality and frame
rate to low, medium or high for an entire sequence or use Dynamic RT to
change quality and frame rate on the fly.
RT Extreme processes multiple streams of video effects in real time for
OfflineRT, DV, DVCPRO50, IMX, native HDV, DVCPRO HD and uncompressed SD
and HD. The number of streams is limited only by your system
configuration: The faster the system and disks, the more simultaneous
video streams you can work with in real time.
Real-time Speed Changes and Time Remapping
Final Cut Pro 5 applies speed changes in real time with frame blending.
In addition to constant speed changes, the Time Remap tool lets you
speed up, slow down, reverse or ramp playback speed over time.
Digital Cinema Desktop
Don't have an extra broadcast monitor handy? Use Digital Cinema Desktop
to preview SD and HD video with real-time effects on an Apple Cinema
Display. On a portable computer, switch to presentation mode for
full-screen playback with JKL keyboard control.
Editing and Trimming
Final Cut Pro 5 includes the precision editing and trimming tools you
need to bring your story to life. The staples for professional
editors--ripple, roll, slip, and slide--are all there, along with
advanced tools that let you trim asymmetrically, extend edits and
create J- and L-cuts.
The Final Cut Pro Workspace
Visual controls in Final Cut Pro, including buttons and shortcut menu
commands give you total control of the editing process. This unique
editing environment also includes the tools you need to cut video with
speed and precision.
Customization
You can customize the way you work in Final Cut Pro 5 by creating your
own keyboard shortcuts and user interface buttons for over 600 tools
and commands.
You can also customize the Browser columns and increase the font size
for text. Create custom window arrangements and Timeline settings that
suit the way you work. Save your settings and load them onto any other
Final Cut Pro 5 system.
Multichannel Audio
Use Final Cut Pro 5 audio editing tools to capture up to 24 channels of
high-resolution 24-bit/96kHz audio in a single pass. Use the onscreen
mixer with an external MCP (Mackie Control Protocol) audio control
surface to edit and manipulate audio more efficiently. Or take your
audio editing to the next level with Soundtrack Pro.
Media Manager
The improved Media Manager helps consolidate media and projects on your
system. New options let you manage multiclips effectively and even
rename media files to match clip names or changes you've made in the
Browser. Use the new "Reveal in Finder" option to quickly locate media
files from your project on the hard drive. Comprehensive search, sort
and sift commands in the Browser easily identify assets. And new
reconnect functionality enables you to specify locations to search for
media, saving time when opening projects after media has moved.
Output and Finishing
Final Cut Pro 5 gives you unparalleled output and finishing
capabilities at an affordable price, especially when compared to the
cost of using proprietary systems. With advanced 8-, 10- and 32-bit
float image processing, you can rest assured your output will always
look stunning. New high-quality scale and rotate algorithms along with
advanced color correction tools give you everything you need to finish
your story and output it to tape, DVD or the web.
Seamless Workflow
Final Cut Pro 5 has deep cross-application integration with Apple's
family of professional audio and video applications. Roundtrip content
between Final Cut Pro 5, Motion 2, Soundtrack Pro and DVD Studio Pro 5
with automatic asset updating as items change in your project.
Final Cut Pro 5 also offers new integration with Apple's Shake 4, the
premier application for digital effects compositing. Your production
team can share data seamlessly between editing and effects tasks,
thanks to Final Cut Pro/Shake integration.
Xsan
Capture once, save time and share media with multiple editors using a
consolidated storage pool powered by Xsan. Give multiple editors
simultaneous access to media files, reconnect and manage files across a
large Xsan environment and budget your real-time effects based on
available Xsan bandwidth.
XML Interchange
Final Cut Pro 5 supports XML interchange format, which describes every
aspect of a program from edits and transitions to effects, color
correction settings and keyframe data. Using XML interchange format,
you can seamlessly share project, bin, sequence, clip and media data
generated by Final Cut Pro with any other application or system that
supports XML, including other nonlinear editors, asset management
databases and custom post-production pipelines.
OMF and AAF
Final Cut Pro 5 supports exporting audio via OMF, which moves all of
the audio in your edited sequence into a self-contained file, with all
In and Out points preserved in relation to the total duration of the
project. And because OMF export preserves all of your edit points, the
editor at your audio facility get to work immediately after the OMF
file has been imported and resynchronized to your video. An AAF plug-in
from Automatic Duck provides AAF I/O functionality.
The first choice for professional editors everywhere, Final Cut Pro 5
delivers powerful and precise editing tools that work with virtually
any format. Final Cut Pro is built for speed, with a real-time
multistream effects architecture, multicam editing tools and advanced
color correction. Intuitively integrated with other Apple professional
video and audio applications, Final Cut Pro gives you more creative
options and technical control than ever before.
